Restore and Renew

This beautiful heritage building has seen a lot in it’s day – Royal Visits, early TUC conferences, regular attendances of 1880+ people for church services, learning and social activities, it’s many rooms have been variously used for wartime hospital beds, social and economic improvement, everything a Methodist Mission building was designed for.

In the 60’s  and  70’s following the reduction of church populations and regular income the forward thinking church council of its time undertook a huge re-ordering of the building and included shop units, disabled access, a new church floor and a large number of fixed seats (donated by a Methodist cinema mogul) in the Main Hall.

This remodelling made perfect sense in the 1960’s and enabled new ways of raising income.  Since then the Victoria Hall has built up a community of charities and groups who make a real difference to the lives of the people of Sheffield, and have reached out to concert and conference organisers to fully utilise all areas of the building.  A charity called The Foundry was formed specifically to build on this amazing work, and we are wholeheartedly working for the future of this important building.

August sees a huge step forward in the trusteeship of this building, the 1960’s seating on the ground floor of the Main Hall will be replaced by new more flexible, safer, more comfortable seating, allowing a whole new range of uses previously inhibited by the fixed seating.

This has come after years of conversation with the Methodist Conservation and historical architects (and careful reconsideration after 2020 lockdown)….. but at last we are here……..
